Teaching
Private voice & Acting Lessons
I am currently accepting virtual and in person students for voice and acting lessons. I love working with actors and musicians of all ages to help them find their unique voice and style. Freedom in the body leads to freedom in the voice and freedom of acting choices. I help guide students to their authentic style through vocal and physical exercises designed to alleviate tension so that you can show up and feel your best for performances and auditions. I offer a one-time complimentary 15-minute consult for new students to talk about your goals for lessons and get to know each other. You can sign up for that through the link below. Current students can also book lessons below. Please book at least 24 hours in advance. Lessons not booked at least 24 hours in advance are charged at time and a half.
Dialect Coaching
While at The Boston Conservatory, I served as a Teaching Assistant for the Voice and Speech Department. During this time, I had the opportunity to work privately with actors, tutoring them on different dialects and voice and speech techniques. I have worked in Boston as a dialect coach for several productions, some of my favorites include: Steel Magnolias (Hub Theatre Company), Gross Indecency (The Longwood Players), and Brundibar/But the Giraffe (The Boston Conservatory).
Learning new dialects can seem daunting without sufficient guidance. I use the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA), recording of native speakers, and one-on-one work with the actors when dialect coaching a production. If you would like to work together for an upcoming production, please reach out via the contact button below.

“She didn’t just teach us music. She also encouraged us to grow as individuals. As a shy student who had stage anxiety and fears about the future, I cannot tell you how reassuring it was to have someone there to life me up and tell me that I am capable of doing great things. Not only did Jamie Shannon teach me all about music, she also helped me discover who I am as a person and embrace everything that comes with it. - Madeleine, former choral student
